Weekend Re-cap & Goals

Hi friends! Before I get into a weekend re-cap I have to start off by saying, I’m devastated about the recent events in Orlando. My thoughts and prayers go out to those affected by such an unfathomable act of terrorism.

Our weekend was spent with friends & family (some of the best ways to spend weekends). The weather was beautiful. I wasn’t in the mood to complete my planned 3-mile run. In the past, I’d be so upset with myself for not exercising. I’m really trying to not be so hard on myself when it comes to exercise. I’m trying to find a healthy balance rather than having an “all or nothing” mindset. I thought about what I wanted to do (since running was definitely not it). I wanted to take a long walk with “S”. She gets so excited when she sees the ducks.

We ended up walking close to 3 miles (I think my Charity Miles app said we walked 2.7 miles). Seeing the excitement in “S’s” eyes when we were on our walk made my day. I was still active and ENJOYED my exercise for the day. Even though, I didn’t run, I still reached my 10-mile goal for the week.

These were some beautiful flowers we saw on our walk (does anyone know what kind they are?):

I also spent some time this weekend making homemade peppermint lip balm! I’ll have the recipe up for you all this week. It was so easy to make!

Here are my exercise goals for this week:

My eating/nutrition goals for the week: Don’t eat like I did this past weekend! Smile

I hope you have a nice start to your week.

Thinking Out Loud {#2}

Hi friends! I’m excited that it’s Thursday because it’s time for a “Thinking Out Loud” post! Thinking-Out-Loud

  • I’m definitely a planner. Each Sunday, I sit down and plan our meals, my workouts, & general weekly activities. I absolutely love writing in my planner (I use it like a journal, documenting “S’s” milestones & exciting things she does). When I planned my runs for this week,  I planned 3 days (each with distances ranging from 3.1 – 3.5 miles). On Monday, I was feeling extra motivated (because I was using my Charity Miles app and earning money for St. Jude’s) and I ended up running 4 miles! I was slow and it was hot, but I did it.

  • I have really been enjoying making products using my essential oils. I’m slowly replacing my old products with these new & all-natural products. I had no idea how easy it would be to make them. They typically take me about 5 minutes to make. The 2 best things about making my own products is: I know exactly what ingredients are in them and I know that they are 100% safe for my family. I have to admit, at first I was worried that they wouldn’t work as well as other traditional products. I have been pleasantly surprised. Not only do they work well, but they work BETTER. I’m so glad I started this oil journey.
  • I enjoyed watching 2 episodes of The Bachelorette this week, but why oh why do I have to wait 2 weeks for the next episode. My first impression of Chad has proven to be true. Confession:  I always look up spoilers to see who gets picked at the end of the season. The past couple of spoilers have been correct.
  • Sunflowers are one of my favorite flowers. We started growing them in pots on our deck. Once they began doing well, we transplanted them in our yard. Today, I looked out at them and they are all gone! Something ate ALL of the plants. Ugh! Oh well, at least an animal had a good meal.

  • “S” loves popsicles. I’ve been making different combinations (while sneaking spinach in for a healthy bonus). She gobbles them up!

IMG_3810IMG_3811 I hope you have a great Thursday! ~K Do you currently use essential oils?  If so, what are your favorites?  If not, are you interested in them, but not sure where to begin? (I’d be happy to help). How do you sneak healthy foods into your child’s meals? (I need some new ideas.) Smile

Weekend Re-cap & Weekly Goals

Hey there! I hope you had a nice weekend and your week is off to a great start. Here’s a recap of our weekend:

My goal last week was to run/walk a total of 10 miles. This was a pretty big goal I set for myself (because I’ve never covered that much distance in a week before). I’m so proud to say that I ran/walked a total of 10.2 miles last week! I ended up working out 6 days last week. I alternated 21 Day Fix strength workouts with running. It felt great, but I really enjoyed my rest day on Monday.

My running goal is the same for this week: 10 miles. I just plan to take less walk breaks. My other planned workouts are: strength training on non-running days. This week my strength workouts are going to be full body weights with HIIT intervals between sets.

We spent a lot of time outside this past weekend. “S” loves being outside. She especially loves playing in her water table. Oh, she also loves helping me water our vegetables and plants too. Speaking of plants, over the weekend some of our fruits & vegetables started getting buds. Our red peppers are really taking off (although one of the peppers looks like a jalapeno which is planted next to the red peppers, hmm):

IMG_3830Our lavender getting pollinated.

I never thought I’d be that into “gardening” (I have it in quotes because we don’t actually have a garden. We have pots with various plants in them), but it has been a lot of fun. Tonight, we ate our first salad with organic romaine that we grew.

We also spent some time at the pool this weekend. It’s funny because “B” and I never went to the pool prior to having our daughter (not sure why, but we just didn’t). Now that we have her, and she loves the water so much, we’ve been going regularly.

I also made some amazing body wash using my essential oils. I’ll be posting the recipe this week.

Have a great day!

Thinking Out Loud

Happy Thursday! My Thursday posts are going to be made up of just random thoughts in my head. I got this idea from Running With Spoons.

So sit back, relax, and enjoy all of my random thoughts for the day. Smile

Thought #1: I absolutely LOVE summertime and being outside. The part I don’t enjoy is lathering up my toddler with sunblock. It literally is a chasing game with the end result being me all sweaty with sunblock all over the furniture. I do love the giggles and chasing her around, but her sensitive skin worries me. “S”’s skin has been extremely sensitive lately & she’s battling bouts of eczema. Luckily, I have been able to keep it pretty controlled with one of the natural essential oil lotions I made (I’ll be posting the “recipe” in hopes to help other mothers and fathers out there that need some eczema relief for their little one. I’m just concerned that the chlorine and sunblock are going to agitate her skin much more this summer.

Thought #2: I really am enjoying my weekly runs. Prior to becoming pregnant, I was running twice a week. At first it was hard for me because I was never a runner. Once I built up my endurance, running was actually fun for me. Slowly, I stepped away from running (I stopped running in my 2nd trimester because it was so uncomfortable). I’m on week 5 of running regularly again, but this time, I’m aiming for 3 days a week. Now, I’m running with my little running buddy in our jogging stroller. She absolutely loves it! Each day it gets a little easier, but wow, running with a jogging stroller is a whole new ballgame. My current running mantra: “Slow and steady wins the race”.

Thought #3: Essential oils are amazing. I started using them months ago (you can read about how I got started here). When I first started using them, I pretty much just diffused them. Now, I’m incorporating them in almost every aspect of my life. In fact, the face wash I made is AMAZING. My skin has never looked better (bonus: it’s made with 100% all natural nontoxic products)!

Thought #4: My guilty pleasure: I’m hooked on this season of the Bachelorette. However, I always have to watch it on the dvr (there are too many commercials!). I think Jojo is adorable and she’s got some good bachelors to chose from. I know editing plays a major part in the show, but Chad comes off as a little crazy.

Thought #5: I needed to change up my weekly strength training workouts because I was getting bored, so I started incorporating 21 Day Fix workouts into my routine. I never thought a 1-minute interval was that difficult to perform, until I started doing these workouts.

Thought #6: If you follow me on Instagram, you’ve seen my latest sandwich obsession. It’s a toasted (a little too much in this photo) flatbread, with fresh mozzarella cheese, spinach, tomato, and balsamic vinaigrette. SO GOOD (and under 400 calories)!

Thought #7: I’m so blessed to be able to be a stay-at-home mom. I always thought I’d be a working mom (because I loved teaching so much). Once I had “S”, that all changed. I wanted nothing more than to stay at home with her. I actually went back to work for a month and it was the hardest thing I ever had to do. My heart would break (and I would cry every single day) when I took her to daycare. I am so fortunate that I was able to resign (aka “retire” Smile) so that I could stay at home with my baby. She is growing up so fast and changing every day. I’m truly blessed and very fortunate to be able to be home with her.

So those are my random thoughts on this beautiful Thursday. I hope you enjoyed reading them. Have a great day!

Memorial Day Weekend & Week Re-Cap

How was your weekend? Ours was really nice. It was the perfect combination of getting stuff done around the house and spending time together as a family. Even though my daughter is only a toddler, it’s very important for me to teach the meanings behind the holidays we celebrate. I know she cannot understand the meaning behind Memorial Day just yet, but I still explained it to her when she would point to the flags flying in our neighborhood.

“Push-Ups” (aka my workouts)

I did really well with my workouts this past week and weekend (eating, not so much). I did 3 days of strength training and 3 days of running/walking. I just got back into running recently, so I’m mostly doing interval training. I love that my little “running” buddy has fun on our runs. I did a total of 9.5 miles total. My goal for this week is 10 miles.“

“Pigtails” (aka family/motherhood happenings)

Last week we went to a really cool park. It has a Wizard of Oz theme and is absolutely adorable. To enter the park, you follow the “yellow brick road”. Little miss loved running around and climbing (her two favorite things).

Over the weekend, we went for a lot of walks, got frozen yogurt, and played in the water table. It was nice being able to spend so much time outside (we had a lot rain in the beginning of May so we didn’t get outside much earlier in the month).

Sleeping was rough this weekend. I’m not sure if she’s going through a mental learning leap, or her 2-year molars are about to come in. Either way, we were wide awake at 2:30 am. two nights in a row. Normally when she goes through a phase like this, it doesn’t last that long.

Over the weekend I also made some all-natural homemade bug repellant. I have been making so many things lately because I don’t trust a lot of the chemicals in most products. I will be posting these “recipes” under the “Natural Living” tab, so be sure to check them out.

Also, be sure to follow me on Instagram and Twitter. Just click the icons at the top of the page.

I hope you had a nice weekend and have a great start to your week!
