My very first blog post!

I’m so excited to be writing about my passions (family, fitness, and general healthy living). I’ll start this blog out with a little backstory. Back in 2007, my husband and I were on a 15-day Hawaiian cruise. We spent half of that time at sea (in 17ft. waves, but that’s besides the point). While at sea, we took advantage of some of the ship’s offerings. Side note: I don’t recommend trying to run on a treadmill during rough seas, it’s a guarantee that there will be some sea sickness occurring (it sounded like a good idea at the time).

We ended up attending a “Detoxing” seminar. The presenter talked about every day toxins. He told us about the toxicity of products, food, and the environment. It was extremely informative, yet scary. When the seminar was over, they tried to sell everyone a “detox” package from the ship’s spa. While it was tempting (after all, we just learned that we were practically nothing but a toxic mess), my husband and I just chalked it up as a sales pitch and left.

Once we got home, I decided to research some of the information we heard at the seminar. The very fist thing I researched was the affect pesticides have on our health. Low and behold, the information from the seminar was confirmed. I continued researching and couldn’t stop (I was becoming a little obsessed). I was fascinated, angry, and determined. I was determined to change our ways.

We started out making very small changes. The first thing we did was start buying organic produce and meats when possible. As the years went by, we made more and more changes to our every day products. Fast forward to 2016 and now we are more knowledgeable about the importance of limiting our toxic exposure. This was especially important to me when I found out I was pregnant. I didn’t want to use anything harmful on my body for fear that it could cause complications to our baby. I’m always researching the products we use (especially the products we use on our daughter).

While we’ve made so many changes to nontoxic products, we’re still trying to make more. I’m still learning and researching. I plan to share all of the products that we use on this blog. Hopefully, you’ll find it useful and informative.  I would also love to hear your product recommendations!

Well, I think this was a good start to the very first post. If you’ve read this far, thank you! 🙂
